Representational formalisms : what they are and why we haven ’ t had any
نویسنده
چکیده
Currently, the only discipline that has dealt with scientific representations— albeit non-structural ones—is mathematics (as distinct from logic). I suggest that it is this discipline, only vastly expanded based on a new, structural, foundation, that will also deal with structural representations. Logic (including computability theory) is not concerned with the issues of various representations useful in natural sciences. Artificial intelligence was supposed to address these issues but has, in fact, hardly advanced them at all. How do we, then, approach the development of representational formalisms? It appears that the only reasonable starting point is the primordial point at which all of mathematics began, i.e. we should start with the generalization of the process of construction of natural numbers, replacing the identical structureless units, out of which numbers are built, by structural ones, each signifying an atomic “transforming” event. This paper is conceived as a companion to [1], and is a revised version of [2]. Mathematics is the science of the infinite, its goal is the symbolic comprehension of the infinite with human, that is finite, means.

A Critical Study of the Views on the Why of Not Mentioning Uli `lamr as the Source of Conflict in the Verse 59 Nias
The present descriptive-analytic research has examined and interpreted the commentators' view on the why of not mentioning Uli `lamr as a source of conflict resolution in the verse 59 of Sura Nisa. In various respects, some have considered lack of innocence as the reason for not mentioning them as a source of dispute resolution, some view the people`s obligation in following the first part of t...
متن کاملEvaluation of an evaluation
Introduction. Evaluation is a systematic way to improve and make more effective actions that involves procedures which are useful, feasible, ethical, and accurate. Common questions in all evaluations are: do all part of program do well and effective? What is the good functioning? Why the program or its parts do not work well? What are the effects and consequences of the program? Is this progra...

متن کاملA Brief Philosophical Encounter with Science and Medicine
We show a lot of respect for science today. To back up our claims, we tend to appeal to scientific methods. It seems that we all agree that these methods are effective for gaining the truth. We can ask why science has its special status as a supplier of knowledge about our external world and our bodies. Of course, one should not always trust what scientists say. Nonetheless, epistemological jus...

The development and evolution of any system–person, organization–nation depends on how the system succeeds to bridge the gap between what the system knows and what the system does (with the knowledge). We call this the gap between knowing and doing or the knowing-doing gap. If the system does not do what it knows, it will lose out in competition with other systems, its relative performance in...
